Apple released Siri AI in beta on September 14, 2026, in English only, and Siri AI French support is due next month. Canadian employers with company iPhones should use that gap to set their Siri AI work device rules.
- Apple says Siri AI uses personal context across messages, mail and photos, understands what is on screen, and can take actions in apps.
- It arrived in beta, in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support promised next month.
- Server-side features carry daily usage limits during the beta, so no team should build a process on it yet.
Who decides whether the assistant on a company iPhone may read the work inbox? On September 14, 2026, that question stopped being hypothetical. Apple released Siri AI with its 2027 software, and the new Siri draws on “personal context” from the apps people use all day. For a Canadian business, two details in Apple’s own release decide the timing: it is a beta, and it is English only until next month.
Key points
- What changes on a work iPhone this week? Any employee with a supported device and English set as the Siri language can start using Siri AI as soon as they update.
- Why does Siri AI French support matter in Canada? Many Canadian teams work in both languages, and in Quebec French is the normal language of work.
- Who owns the settings? Whoever manages your company devices owns this, whether through an MDM service or by hand.
What changes on a work iPhone this week?
Any employee with a supported device and English set as the Siri language can start using Siri AI as soon as they update. Apple lists iPhone 16 models or later, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and Macs and iPads with M1 or later chips.
On those devices Siri can use what is in messages and mail, see what is on screen and act inside apps.
Apple says the features run on its Foundation Models, “custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models,” on the device and on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers. We take Apple’s privacy description as a vendor claim. It may well be sound. It does not replace your own decision about which work data an assistant may touch.
Why does Siri AI French support matter in Canada?
Many Canadian teams work in both languages, and in Quebec French is the normal language of work. Apple says Siri AI requires a device “set to a supported language,” with French support “coming next month.” Until then, staff whose phones are set to French will not get the new Siri, while English-set colleagues on the same team will.
Quebec’s Charter of the French language gives consumers the right to be informed and served in French and requires software to be available in French where a French version exists.
That split is a reason to wait. (For the basics on availability and the IT switch, see our Siri AI guide for Canadian business.) A bilingual office that rolls out a Siri-based routine in September will have half the team on a different tool until October. We would hold any team-wide use until French support ships and has been tested.

Who owns the settings?
Whoever manages your company devices owns this, whether through an MDM service or by hand. That person should know which phones are eligible, which have updated, and whether work mail sits in the same app Siri can read. On personally owned phones used for work, the decision falls to the employee unless your policy says otherwise.
| Device situation | Owner | Our suggested default until French ships |
|---|---|---|
| Company iPhone, managed | Device administrator | Hold Siri AI for work mail; test on two devices |
| Company iPhone, unmanaged | Office lead or owner | Count eligible devices; add them to management |
| Personal phone with work mail | Employee, under your policy | Apply your personal AI agent rule |
The defaults are our suggestion. The last row links to the one-page rule in our personal AI agent policy column; Siri AI is the same question arriving through the phone itself. If your team runs on Google Workspace, the edition check in our Gemini plan piece covers the other side of the same assistant choice.
What would change our view
Two things would move us to a faster rollout: Apple shipping French support on the promised schedule, and management settings that let an administrator switch Siri AI’s access to work mail on or off per app. If both arrive by the end of October, a managed pilot in November is reasonable.
Try This Week
- Task: count company devices eligible for Siri AI.
- Owner: your device administrator.
- Metric: eligible devices, and how many are set to French.
- Baseline: today’s device list. Most teams do not know the number.
- Threshold: every eligible device is listed with its Siri language and mail app.
- Deadline: Friday, September 18.
