Google’s launch post leads with a 30% cut to $0.07 per second for Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash at 720p. The same post says you can already generate 15-second clips in Google Vids without an extra Vid fee if you already have a Google account or Workspace. For a Canadian team that already lives in Workspace, that order matters more than Google’s sticker price.
What did Google change on Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash?
On November 5, 2026, Google DeepMind made Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash open for production use on the Gemini API and on Google Cloud. Clips now run up to 15 seconds, up from 10 seconds on Omni 1.1, with one-second steps from 3 to 15. You can draft at 360p or 720p, edit in conversation, then upscale winners. Outputs carry an imperceptible SynthID watermark.
We have not generated Omni clips ourselves this run. The claims above are from Google’s own post, not from a side-by-side quality test.

Why should a Canadian team open Google Vids first?
Because the free path sits on tools many Canadian offices already pay for. If your firm runs Workspace, Vids is already on the shelf. Opening the Gemini API for the first ten hooks adds a second bill, a second login path, and a second place for brand assets to drift, before you know whether Omni holds your packaging and colours.
That is the same buyer instinct we used on Google AI Mode checkout in Canada: try the controlled, low-stakes surface before you wire money to the new pipe. Your Workspace plan still sets the Gemini limits on each seat, so check that seat map before anyone asks for API keys.
Mechanism in one pass: Vids and the API both call Omni 1.2 Flash, but Vids keeps the work inside the Workspace seat you already govern. The API path is for developers and production pipelines that need keys, quotas and partner apps. If nobody on your team needs those pipes yet, the free Vids draft is the cleaner first measurement.
How much does a Gemini Omni API hook cost in CAD?
Google’s published rate is $0.07 USD per second for 720p. A full 15-second draft is $1.05 USD. Using a November 6, 2026 market rate of 1.4066 Canadian dollars per US dollar (frankfurter.app; Bank of Canada valet did not return a usable field this run), that is about $1.48 CAD per clip. Ten hooks before a shoot run about $10.50 USD, or about $14.77 CAD, before upscales or failed retries.
| Clip | USD | CAD (x1.4066) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 seconds | $0.21 | $0.30 |
| 10 seconds | $0.70 | $0.98 |
| 15 seconds | $1.05 | $1.48 |
| 10 x 15-second hooks | $10.50 | $14.77 |
That is cheap next to a shoot day. It is still real money once a team burns fifty failed drafts. The free Vids lane exists to check whether Omni keeps your logo, garment folds and shelf type readable before anyone pastes a credit card into AI Studio. Treat the API sticker the way we treat other Google image rates in Nano Banana 2 pricing: the headline unit is not the unit that hits the invoice.
What buyer test proves a free draft is good enough?
A free Vids brand-kit test before any API spend. Give Vids your product stills, one style frame and the exact claim line you would run in a Canadian ad. Generate five 15-second drafts. Pass mark: three of five keep the logo legible, the pack colours true, and the spoken claim unchanged. Time box: one afternoon. Fail means fix the references or keep a human editor in the loop. Do not open API billing to paper over a brand-kit problem.
Also write who signs the final cut. SynthID proves Google’s provenance mark is present. It does not tell a Calgary retailer whether the claim would pass their own counsel or Ad Standards review. For avatar-led spots, keep the same disclosure habit we argued in the AI avatar disclosure column.
When is the paid API still worth it?
When you already passed the free test and need volume, partner tooling, or Google Ads-scale variants that Vids alone will not batch. Provisioned Throughput and Cloud controls matter for larger Canadian brands. Introductory model pricing can also move, as we saw with Gemini 4 Argon pricing, so lock the rate you budgeted before a campaign week.
If Vids quality is visibly worse than API on your brand kit, pay for the API path. Just measure that gap on your own assets first.
Falsifier for our take: if Google removes the free 15-second Omni path from Vids for Workspace seats, or publishes Canadian Ads rules that require paid API provenance, the Vids-first order stops being the right default. Until then, treat the API sticker as a second step.

FAQ
Is Google Vids Gemini Omni free for Workspace?
Google’s November 5, 2026 post says you can make 15-second clips inside Google Vids without an extra Vid fee when you already have a Google account or Workspace. Seat limits still follow your Workspace plan.
How much is Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash on the API?
Google lists $0.07 USD per second for 720p after a 30% cut from Omni 1.1. A 15-second clip is $1.05 USD, about $1.48 CAD at a Nov 6, 2026 rate of 1.4066.
Does SynthID meet Canadian ad disclosure rules?
SynthID is Google’s imperceptible watermark on Omni outputs. It leaves claim review and any counsel-required disclosure for Canadian ads with you.
Should we skip Vids and go straight to the Gemini API?
Only if you already measured that Vids fails your brand-kit pass mark and you need API volume or Cloud controls. Otherwise start in Vids.
Have you tested Gemini Omni quality yourselves?
No. This column uses Google’s published post and a CAD conversion. We have not generated Omni clips in Vids or the API this run.
Open Google Vids this week, run the five-draft brand-kit test, and only then decide whether Gemini Omni API dollars belong on the card. Last fact-checked November 6, 2026.
