Claude Personal Finance Canada is still US-only. Ban bank CSV pastes first

Claude Personal Finance Canada is US-only for now. Ban bank CSV pastes and write a one-page connect rule.

Staff keep asking the same question this week: can we paste a bank CSV into Claude until Personal Finance works in Canada? The short answer for Claude Personal Finance Canada is no. Anthropic’s own pages put the feature on US Pro, Max and Ultra plans only, with US banks through Plaid. Until that changes, a Canadian office should ban bank and card exports in any AI chat and write who may connect finance tools when the feature finally shows up.

The November 2026 Anthropic article puts Personal Finance in a US beta for the paid Pro, Max and Ultra seats. The Claude Help Centre guide repeats the US-only limit, excludes Free, Team and Enterprise, and states that linked banks must be US banks. Access is read-only. Claude cannot move, manage or invest money. You sign in to your bank through Plaid, so Claude does not see the password.

Key points

Claude Personal Finance is a US beta for paid Pro, Max and Ultra seats. Canada is not on the page.
Plaid links are read-only and limited to US banks. A CSV paste is not the same control.
Ban bank and card exports in AI chats until your office names who may connect finance tools.
Falsifier: Anthropic posts Canada availability or Canadian bank linking. Until then, keep the ban.

What does Personal Finance actually connect?

It connects the bank and card accounts you choose through Plaid, then lets you ask about balances, spending, subscriptions and bills in plain language. For those accounts, Anthropic lists a narrow read set: the bank’s name, each account’s name and type, the final four digits, current balances, credit limits, and transaction history going back as far as 24 months. Hub chats about that data are not used to train Anthropic’s models, per the product page.

That is a real product with a clear edge. It is also not what a Winnipeg bookkeeper gets when they drop last month’s export into a normal Claude window. A paste skips Plaid. It skips the hub. It rides on whatever privacy settings already apply to ordinary chats. Staff reach for the paste because the sidebar feature is missing outside the US, which the help centre itself notes for people abroad or on a non-US VPN.

Why is a paste ban the Canada job this week?

Because the feature staff are reading about in US coverage does not exist for Canadian banks yet, and the workaround is worse than waiting. A CSV of transactions is a month of payees, amounts and often account identifiers. Once it is in a chat, your office is relying on prompt discipline and vendor settings, not on a bank-grade connection screen.

Canadian firms already know this pattern from agent logins. RBC refusing third-party agents at the login screen and the login rules inside Canadian bank agreements are about who holds the keys. Pasting an export is a softer copy of that mistake: the data leaves the bank channel without a named owner. Wealthsimple Penny’s card caps deal with agents that pay. This column is about chats that only read, which still need a written rule.

We are not saying Canadian banks refuse Plaid. Anthropic’s limit today is product availability and US banks only. No Canada date appears on the pages we opened on November 6, 2026.

Write this one-page bank-data rule before Friday

One page is enough if it names owners and bans. Put it next to your approved-tools list. The test is simple: can a new hire find the rule without asking Slack, and does it answer the CSV question in one line?

One-page bank-data rule (checklist)
1. Ban: no bank, card, payroll or accounting exports pasted or uploaded into any AI chat.
2. Owner: name the controller (or office lead) who approves any future finance connection.
3. Scope: list which tools may ever see balances or transactions, and which roles may ask.
4. Review: when Anthropic (or another vendor) adds Canada or Canadian banks, the owner re-reads the help page and signs the page before anyone links an account.
5. Pass mark by Friday: every person who touches books has read the page; the CSV question is answered in writing.
Keep the page with your AI tool list. Pair it with the OPC vendor due diligence checklist when a connection is on the table.

Run the test on one Red Deer clinic or one Halifax contractor office the same way: print the page, walk it past the person who reconciles the accounts, and ask them to break it. If they can still justify a paste “just this once,” the ban line is too soft.

Is a US Claude seat safer than a paste ban?

For most Canadian small offices, no. A US personal Pro seat that shows Personal Finance still links US banks only. It does not add Canadian accounts. Paying for a seat so someone can connect a US subsidiary account, if you even have one, is a different project with tax and custody questions. It is not a shortcut for the local operating account.

A paste ban is free, boring and enforceable this afternoon. It also leaves room for the day Anthropic adds Canada. The falsifier is simple: when Anthropic posts Canada availability or Canadian bank linking, revisit the page and decide who connects first. Until then, keep the ban.

FAQ

Is Claude Personal Finance available in Canada?

Not according to Anthropic’s pages we read on November 6, 2026. Personal Finance sits in a US-only beta for paid Pro, Max and Ultra seats, and the help centre limits linked banks to US banks.

What does Claude see when you connect a bank?

For the accounts you share through Plaid, Anthropic says Claude can read the bank’s name, each account’s name and type, the final four digits, balances, credit limits, and transaction history for as long as 24 months. Access is read-only.

Can a Canadian office paste a bank CSV into Claude instead?

You can type or upload almost anything into a chat, which is exactly the risk. Pasting a CSV shares the file with the model under your normal chat settings, without Plaid’s bank login screen or the Personal Finance hub’s training carve-out. Treat that as a policy choice, not a workaround.

Does this mean Canadian banks refuse Plaid?

No. Anthropic’s limit is product availability and US banks only. We are not saying Canadian banks refuse Plaid, and Anthropic has not published a Canada date on the pages we opened.

Talk to the controller and whoever owns your AI tool list before anyone pastes another export. The US product is interesting. The Canada job this week is the ban and the one-page rule.

Facts checked November 6, 2026 against Anthropic’s Personal Finance article, the Claude Help Centre guide and Plaid’s announcement. We have not used Personal Finance; the feature was US-only on that date.
